The number of Jewish players in the
NBA has increased from two to three with the confirmation of Amare
Stoudemire being Jewish. According to his verified twitter account on
July 21st, the 100 million dollar worth player has replied to a
question of a fan if he is Jewish. Amare wrote: "Is indeed!!". Amare
recently found out his mother is Jewish which like we know makes him
officaly Jewish. The fan's question came after several of Amare's
tweets including Hebrew. Stoudemire who worked with Israeli based,
personal trainer, Idan Ravin, tweeted on July17th "Boker Tov! it's time
to work". Apparently working with Ravin and the fascinating discovery
of his roots triggered the Knicks players to discover more about
Judaism and his past as he is currently visiting Israel. His tweet
yesterday announced: "on
the flight to Israel. This is going to be a great trip. The holy land.
Learn about it. This ze ha'halom sheli. Shalom." Very impressing if you
ask me. And earlier today Stoudemire kept surprising us with:" Jerusalem
is a beautiful city, I'm at a cafe eating a late lunch. I'm learning
Hebrew by the min. Keep up !! Shalom." If Amare will keep up his good
work learning Hebrew, at the meeting between Sacramento Kings and Omri
Casspi against the Knicks, both players can trash talk in Hebrew for
the first time in NBA history. Casspi also spends the last days in
Israel but unlike the Knicks player, Casspi isn't on vacation. He is
playing for the Israeli national team as the team prepares for the
European tournament qualification. I guess we all now have some
sympathy to Amare's success at the big apple .
