Yuri Foreman's Punch Out

Yes Dimitriy Salita got pummeled. But never fear Jewish boxing fans. Meet Yuri Foreman. He is an Israeli middleweight boxer and the current World Boxing Association Super welterweight Champion.

Born in Belarus, Foreman and his family moved to Israel when Foreman was 9 years old. He trained in Arab gyms. The stares made him tougher. He quickly became an amteur boxer and won 3 national boxing championships. He took his skills to New York and in 2001 he won the New York Golden Gloves. As an amateur he went 75-5. As a pro he is 27-0.

The craziest part of Foreman's story is that he wants to be Rabbi. He says both boxing and Judaism are spiritual outlets for him. He currently studies in the morning at the IYYUN institute.

So it would be cool to one day call Foreman a colleague . Obviously, not because of my boxing skills. Foreman is really a Jewish inspiration, not just because he wears a Jewish star while he knocks out is opponents, but because he continues to further his Judaism while not compromising his job and other passions.

Keep and eye on Yuri Foreman. He is definitely won of the most inspiring Jewish athletes of today.
And Let Us Say...Amen.
